2021 Band Camp Info

Greetings! With all the slips of paper that have been sent home, letters, emails, Facebook posts and announcements in class and at clinics I hope this is not the first mention you have heard about band camp from your child BUT it never fails….there’s always some…

We are planning for a FUN camp this year with lots of field day competitions built in, team building exercises and of course-the annual WATER BALLOON FIGHT!!! But as I was speaking with the high school students do you want to know their #1 wish? To eat lunch together! They went on and on about
how much they enjoy getting to sit in the lunchroom all at one time and share that meal together. So let’s make it happen! We need to secure five $250 donations and some parent volunteers for these dates:

July 26 / July 27 / July 28 / July 29 / July 30

Please reach out to your church and/or local businesses. If the youth pastor from your church would like to come out and speak during lunchtime that would be wonderful as well! Please email me ASAP if you have any leads on donations and/or can volunteer to work on one of these days (schedule* is below).

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!

  9. Sunglasses
  10. Hat
  11. Towel to sit on,

  13. MORE WATER!

What to Wear

Shorts, t-shirt, TENNIS SHOES, sunscreen. Tank tops must have a minimum of one-inch shoulder straps with all undergarments covered appropriately. Students will not be permitted to wear shirts that have been cut down the sides.

What to Expect

For the first week wind & percussion players will spend most of the time in music rehearsal. These may be inside or outside so come prepared for both. We will have some time for marching fundamentals so be sure to wear tennis shoes. For the second week you will be outside for a good portion of the day. 7:00am sounds early but trust me-you want to take advantage of the cooler morning temperatures. Lunch will be provided for the second week only. Wind & percussion players will transition to music rehearsal after lunch. Auxiliary members should be prepared to rehearse indoor or outdoor at any point during the days and weeks of camps. We will use the middle school gym for rainy days, cool down and large group auxiliary rehearsal.

What I Expect

I expect wind and percussion players to be active outside and acclimated to the heat by the time you arrive at camp. I expect auxiliary members to stretch and workout all summer. I expect all students to practice their instruments and previously learned routines during the summer before band camp. I expect each student to arrive early and be ready to work at camp. I expect each student to eat breakfast before arriving at camp. I expect each student to practice on-their-own each evening after camp. I expect each student to drink water-constantly hydrate-all day and at night so you are refreshed and well hydrated for camp each day. I expect this year to be the best year for the SOTV. I expect the SOTV to receive straight ones at every competition. I expect the drum major, band, percussion and each auxiliary line to receive at least one best in class award. I expect the SOTV to receive at least one grand champion award. BUT MORE THAN ANYTHING-I expect the SOTV to bond closer together, to make memories that last a lifetime, to grow, mature and apply work ethic and dedication to everything they do. I expect a lot and I expect YOU to make it happen.

Very Important

There is no way we can manage a 105+ member marching band without clear methods of communication. PLEASE take a moment to make sure you have joined the following-this is the responsibility of each student and each parent. “Not knowing” is not an excuse…

      • It is very important that each parent/guardian get their cell phone number on my contact list. Please do this NOW. Send a text to the number: 81010 with the message: @valleycubs

      • It is very important that each student who owns a cell phone joins this separate contact list. Please do this NOW. Send a text to the number: 81010 with the message: @goband THIS IS FOR BAND, PERCUSSION, AND AUXILIARY MEMBERS

      • I will post reminders, pictures, fun stuff, important stuff, etc. on the SOTV Facebook Page. Please “join” this group TODAY: facebook.com/groups/sotvband . THIS IS FOR BAND, PERCUSSION, AND AUXILIARY MEMBERS AND PARENTS. Other social media platforms are available and more info is to come on them

      • Lastly, each week (beginning in August) I will send an email with that week’s info + upcoming events. If you have not already received an email from me (i.e. the email with this letter attached) please send me an email right away and request to be added to the parent email list: abarnes.ah@ccboe.us
